EDGEWATER, Md. -- The Brick Companies, owner of the Golf Club at South River, today announced the completion of its new practice facility following a three-month $900,000 renovation project that transformed the previous driving range into a state-of-the-art practice facility.
Open daily, it is available to members and non-members ($10 per bag of Nike range balls for non-members) while the Golf Club at South River continues with its conversion to a private club.
Features of the new practice facility, located adjacent to the 9th hole fairway, include:
- A short-game area, with bunkers and chipping areas where golfers can work on their scoring shots by taking aim at four target greens 60- to 110-yards away, all protected by bunkers;
- Previously an irons-only range, golfers can now practice drives of 300 yards and beyond;
- A USGA chipping green designed to practice green side chip and pitch shots;
- Synthetic turf as well as grass tees at the short game and driving areas;
- An on-site attendant to help guide players to open areas and assist with any needs during their warm-ups;
- A separate putting green just steps from the practice tees;
- A teaching tee at the opposite end of the practice facility, allowing for privacy during lessons and the ability to practice a range of shots. The overall landscaping and entrance features a mix of boulders and synthetic stone, along with plantings to create a “living wall,” and a 12-foot illuminated clock custom made for the Golf Club at South River.
Finally, pairs of Adirondack chairs have been set up overlooking the practice facility so others can enjoy the setting, which has adequate space for large tents and will be used for special events at the club.
“We’ve heard enthusiastic and positive comments from our members who have already used it and believe we have created the region’s top practice facility that will enable golfers to work on all aspects of their game,” said General Manager Mike Kriel, vice president of operational efficiency at The Brick Companies. “We planned and built this practice facility by looking at every perspective and every square foot to create a picturesque space that will allow golfers and guests to practice every shot they will face on the course.”
The practice facility upgrade comes just one year after an award-winning renovation of its clubhouse and the launch of a restaurant, The Bistro at South River, which includes a bar, lounge area with a fireplace and seating for casual and upscale dining. The clubhouse renovation earned a national award when Golf Inc. magazine named it one of the nation’s top remodel and renovation projects in the U.S.
The Golf Course at South River is located at 3451 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. For more information, call 410-798-6004 or visit www.golfclubsr.com
