2011 ULI Baltimore WaveMaker Awards Honors Local Real Estate Developments

The Baltimore District Council of The Urban Land Institute hosted its third annual WaveMaker Awards program on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the Legg Mason Tower building. ULI Baltimore's WaveMakers are local real estate developments that are unique, innovative and visionary.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was on hand to join the "Who's Who" in Maryland real estate development to honor the 2011 WaveMaker Award winners.
Additionally, the Lifetime Achievement Award Winner was presented to M.J. "Jay" Brodie, President of the Baltimore Development Corporation - a longtime key player in Baltimore's development scene.
Eleven projects were submitted to the awards committee. Jurors, Sean Davis, Principal at Morris & Ritchie Associates, Pat Turner, Owner of Turner Development, and Bob Aydukovic, President of the Maryland Center for Construction Education & Innovation participated in the juror selection process. Six prestigious projects were selected because they are respectful of their surrounding neighborhood, economy, history, geography and local government, and provide strong economic returns to stakeholders.
The winners included:
Bosley Hall (the Old Towson Jail) - Developed by The Azola Companies
The Fitzgerald - Developed by The Bozzuto Group
Lighthouse Homeless Prevention Support Center - Developed by Light House - Program of the Annapolis Area Ministries, Inc.
Mercy Health Services - The Mary Catherine Bunting Center - Developed by Mercy Health Services
The Palisades of Towson - Developed by Southern Management Corporation
Thames Street Wharf - Developed by Harbor East Development
Also a 2011 ULI Wavemaker Leadership award winner was selected - it went to Terry Anne Hearn and Morgan Gilligan, Award Committee Co-Chairs
In 2010 the ULI Baltimore District Council's WaveMaker award winners included Healthcare for the Homeless; Bagby Furniture Building; Hilton Baltimore Convention Center Hotel; Annapolis Town Center at Parole; Mariner Bay; Lockwood Place; and Residence at Oella Mill.
John Paterakis with H&S Properties received the first ever ULI Baltimore Lifetime Achievement Award.
"We are pleased to recognize another select group of development projects this year as ULI Baltimore's newest class of WaveMakers," said ULI Baltimore Chair Dan Pallace. "The WaveMakers are those who stretch the boundaries of what was considered possible. They accelerate sustainable, prosperous development in Baltimore and the surrounding counties and create a benchmark for the rest of our industry."
